8th Annual Gig Harbor Drive As most of you know, this drive is normally run in May but with the Covid restrictions I postponed it until the restrictions were eased a little. We have usually ended the drive with a group lunch at a restaurant but since that isn't really possible right now i've decided to do something a little different, a drive around Hood Canal. We will meet at Gateway Park just west of Purdy on Hwy. 302 between 8 and 8:30. We will have a drivers meeting shortly after 8:30 and then head out for our drive. The drive will head west on Hwy. 302 to Hwy. 3 through Belfair and along the north shore of Hood Canal to our first stop at Dewatto River Campground. After a short rest stop we will head up Dewatto Bay rd. to the challenging Bear Creek-Dewatto rd., then continue our journey north passing several lakes on our way to our second stop at Kitsap Memorial State Park. We then head across the Hood Canal bridge on Hwy. 104 to South Point rd. and tour some nice back roads, through the town of Quilcene, on our way to the lunch stop at Dosewallips State Park. After lunch, we continue down Hood Canal, through the towns of Hoodsport and Union to our next stop at Twanoh State park. From Twanoh State park, we will go to Trails End rd., going past Mason and Benson lakes, making our way to Hwy. 3, then down Hwy. 3 through the town of Allyn, back along the bay on Hwy. 302 to our starting and ending point at Gateway Park. We will be making several stops at state parks, so having a Discover Pass is recommended, also remember to pack yourself a lunch, i'm hoping we will have nice weather that day since none of the community shelters are open at the parks at this time. I hope you will be able to come and join us for our later than normal Gig Harbor drive!
