About this event
Coeur d'Alene Lake Tour 2024
This event is one you won't want to miss. It includes one of the best driving roads in our area. And if the weather cooperates the scenery will be stunning.
We will depart from Albertson's on Spokane's South Hill (57th Ave) and take Valley Chapel Road toward Rockford, WA, then continue into Idaho via Hwy 58. After a brief jaunt on US95 South, we will head East to St. Maries, ID for a leg stretch and restroom break at the 1.5 hour mark.
From there we will head North along the east side of Lake Coeur d'Alene, a 50-mile route full of twisties and scenery that seems custom-designed for Miata enthusiasts. (It makes the famed 11-mile Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina seem awfully short!) We'll stop at the 3.0 hour mark for another restroom/driving break.
NOTE: There is a ONE-MILE stretch of gravel road in this segment. We'll go slow and space out to minimize dust. It is well worth braving the gravel for the views, roadway, and avoidance of Interstate 90 filled with tractor trailers and SUVs.
From here we will parade through downtown Coeur d'Alene to a park for an outdoor lunch. Folding chairs and/or blankets are recommended as table seating space is limited. We are working out whether we can do a group lunch using chapter funds--more details to come.
Finally, for those who want a bonus driving segment after lunch, we have a 40-minute jaunt along our chapter favorite route between Coeur d'Alene and Spokane Valley via Riverview Drive. The official end will be in Liberty Lake, WA.
Above is a representation of the route. There will be detailed driver's instructions. Handheld radios are recommended for communication with other drivers.
